【Abstract】 The existing grammatical norm of Mandarin Chinese, “using exemplary modern vernacular works as the grammatical standard”, is unclear, unadaptable, and unbalanced, and it has demonstrated limited efficacy in standardization efforts. In response to these challenges, we advocate for a revision of the current norm. Specifically, we propose establishing the Beijing dialect—the de facto foundation of Mandarin grammar—as the grammatical benchmark for all Mandarin varieties. This proposal is grounded primarily in the high degree of mutual intelligibility in both spoken and written communication between regional varieties and the Beijing dialect. To determine whether a dialectal structure should be incorporated into Mandarin Chinese, we suggest three key criteria: systematicity(i.e., adherence to the established grammatical system), stability(i.e., widespread and consistent usage), and intelligibility(i.e., comprehensibility to speakers of the Beijing dialect in both oral and written forms).更多还原
